God is the Original Individualist

Everything happens for a reason. I've always believed that, but never more than I do now. I've been reading, listening and learning so many wonderful things over the last few weeks and months about politics, history, our country, our state and especially God. From conversations with fellow tea party members to our nations leading black conservative pundits, all roads seem to lead back to God. I don't believe there's any irony in that.

When you begin doing any amount of research into the organizations, groups, unions and individuals surrounding our President, you’ll find the trail always leading back to the ideologies of some of history's worse philosophies: communism, Marxism, progressivism, collectivism, Maoism, socialism, just to name a few.

Without looking at the devastating affects that these philosophies and ideologies that historically they've had on mankind and without finding one historical example of these ideas creating a society that can be modeled in the future, let us look at the tie that binds them. What they all have in common is that their world view is from a secular humanist perspective. Many people do not realize that in 2009, as it has been for the last 200+ years, the battle is between Christianity and the secular humanists and their many other names.

Without boring everyone to sleep, let's briefly explain the difference between the two. Secular humanists believe that man is the supreme being of the universe. They reject the existence of God and the supernatural. They see moral values as relative and changing and varying from person to person. A Christian world view is best summed up by Colossians 2:8 "See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ." A Christian world view is relative today because it touches every aspect of everyone's life everywhere, due to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

What's interesting about this topic and the battles we face is religion’s role in this war. Religion and its history, doesn't always bring about a rosy picture of humanity. As a matter of fact, many religions could easily be compared to the collective governments that ruled tyrannically over their people. With a fallen nature, that of mankind, mix us in with anything "good" and we'll find a way to mess it up. So my friend asked me, "Who speaks for God?" Understanding his question and the nature of religion, I heard, "How can man speak for God?" The answer is simple. We can't. Thankfully though, God spoke for Himself when He gave us His Word, the Bible. The very principles and values that America were built upon came from the words written within that book.

Man, however has made God into a collective state, used to control and manipulate people, exercise to gain power. That is the nature of religion. I love liberty and hate tyranny, but I had never made the connection in my distain for religion and my disgust for collectivism. I love God, don't get me wrong, but I never viewed my relationship with Him as a collective relationship. I’ve never desired to worship Him because others were. I view my relationship with God as a personal one. I know that He formed me in my mother's womb, that He was thinking about me since the creation of the universe, that He personally created a plan of salvation for me because He wanted to be able to spend all of eternity with Him in right relationship.

See, without calling Him it, I always new God was a personal God, an individualist. I know He knows the exact number of hairs on my head, or in my case, the lack of. I know He knows the plans He has for me, plans to prosper me and to watch over me. I know that by accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior that the future is taken care of. God's always been interested in the individual. No two people on earth are exactly alike, not even twins. Even science cries out to the individual uniqueness that each of us possess. Most importantly, the founding fathers recognized this as well when they acknowledged that we have been given certain unalienable rights from our Creator. An artist never creates two of the exact same pieces of art, the musician never composes the same piece of music and God always creates individuals, with individual gifts, talents and abilities, with individual purposes, uniqueness’s and vision.

This Truth is so well known by the collectivists that secular humanists have always tried, as one of their top agendas, to eliminate God, not religion, from society. Secular humanists actually like religion because of its collectivist characteristics and desire for the control of their followers. But the Bible says that "Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is FREEDOM." True liberty comes from knowing your Creator and knowing that He's totally interested in a relationship with you. Attempt to push out the "Spirit of the Lord" and all you'll find is tyranny and bondage.

Conservatives have nothing to fear, by embracing God. All Americans should embrace God, even if simply to understand why we're free. From the foundation of the world, God never intended to limit or herd our potentials. Only to see them thrive and continue to give Him glory. And why shouldn't we as individualists want our lives to give Him glory? He is of course, the original individualist. It’s been His idea all along.

As a Christian nation, we will overcome the secular humanists because united, not collected, we stand, but divided we fall. We are more united as a country than we have been in a long time and are getting more united by the day. But beyond race, creed, sex and color, what we can unite around is that we're free, not because of any man or government, but because of God. Take some time to thank Him and during this Thanksgiving holiday, thank Him especially for our country and commit to preserving the country, founded on Him, rooted in liberty and requiring effort to maintain. For whom much is given, much will always be required.
